Hejamara:The only road connecting Matia area under Hejamara block in 1-Simna Assembly constituency has fallen into such a state of disrepair that residents are now calling it a “death trap,” with no sign of intervention from the concerned department despite the road being the area’s sole lifeline for commuting.
Local residents say the road, used daily for travel to schools, colleges, and hospitals, has deteriorated over a long period without any repair work being undertaken. They claim that commuting on the broken stretch now poses a serious risk to life, particularly for children, the elderly, and patients who need timely access to medical care.
Adding to their concerns, residents pointed out that the road’s poor condition would prevent fire brigade vehicles from entering the area in the event of a fire emergency, raising fears over the community’s safety in case of any disaster. With no alternative route available, residents say they have no choice but to use the damaged road despite the risks involved.
Speaking to the media, several residents detailed the day-to-day hardships they face due to the road’s condition, ranging from difficulty in transporting the sick to delays in children reaching school safely. They have appealed to the administration to either undertake immediate repair work or construct a new road to address the long-standing problem.
Residents said they would continue to press their demand until the concerned department takes concrete action to resolve the issue.
