Agartala: The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a youth and seized 150 bottles of contraband Escuf cough syrup at the Agartala Railway Station on Wednesday night.
The arrested individual has been identified as Kritti Das, a resident of the Dukli Bankumari area under the jurisdiction of the Amtali Police Station. GRP personnel intercepted the suspect during a routine security screening at the station platform. Upon searching his baggage, officers discovered the large consignment of suspected banned intoxicating syrup concealed inside.
According to GRP officials, the youth was planning to smuggle the contraband out of the state via a long-distance train. Police stated that the estimated black-market value of the seized cough syrup is approximately ₹3 lakh.
A specific case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused at the Agartala Railway GRP Station. Investigating officers are currently interrogating the youth to unearth the broader smuggling network, identify his local suppliers, and track down the intended recipients of the contraband.
