Baikhora, Tripura:In a significant breakthrough against a rampant theft syndicate operating across the Shantirbazar sub-division, alert locals apprehended two thieves from the Jolaibari area late Saturday night and handed them over to the Baikhora Police Station, leading to the recovery of several stolen items.
According to reports, a well-organised gang of thieves, operating in multiple groups under the cover of darkness, had been terrorising residents across the sub-division for several days. On Saturday night, when members of the gang attempted to burglarise the residence of Pulak Bhowmik in the Madhyapilak area of Jolaibari, the alert homeowner sensed the intrusion and gave chase along with a fellow local youth. The pursuit culminated in the apprehension of two suspects near the Jolaibari Naka Point at approximately 2:30 AM, along with their auto-rickshaw (TR 08B 3313). Gas cylinders, rubber, and other stolen materials were seized from the vehicle.
The arrested individuals were identified as Bapon Pal of Tulamura and Nayan Dey of Mathula Sardar Para, Baikhora. During interrogation, they revealed the involvement of one Sajal Mog of Baikhora and several others in the gang’s operations. Investigators also uncovered that on 16th May 2026, the gang had stolen a motorcycle from the Baikhora area and sold it across the border in Bangladesh for ₹60,000.
Baikhora Police Station OC Bishnu Das confirmed that a case has been registered under Case No. 12 and that efforts are actively underway to arrest the remaining accused and recover all stolen property.
Police remain confident of cracking the entire network soon.
