Vigilant residents of the Surya Choumuhani area apprehended three individuals allegedly attempting to commit theft in the locality, in an incident that has drawn attention to growing public vigilance against crime in the area.
According to locals, the men were caught in the act by nearby residents, who quickly mobilised to prevent them from fleeing the scene. Word of the incident spread rapidly, drawing more people from the neighbourhood who assisted in keeping the suspects contained until further action could be taken.
Following the apprehension, local residents alerted the police, after which personnel from the East Police Station reached the spot. The police took the three individuals into custody and escorted them to the station for further questioning and legal proceedings.
Authorities are expected to investigate the identities and background of the detained men, as well as ascertain whether they may be linked to similar incidents reported earlier in the area.
The incident has once again highlighted the role of community vigilance in checking petty crime, with residents crediting timely collective action for preventing the suspects from escaping.
