AGARTALA: Irregular (ad-hoc) employees staged a protest in front of IGM Hospital here on Friday, demanding that the state government make good on long-pending promises to regularise their jobs.
According to the protesters, around 35,000 irregular employees remain in the state without regular status. They alleged that former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, during the previous Left Front government’s tenure, had publicly assured them that not a single irregular employee would remain in Tripura once his government came to power.
The protesters said Deb subsequently became Chief Minister and was later replaced, and that despite the BJP-led government now completing eight years in power, their demand for regularisation remains unfulfilled.
“At election time it’s all about votes; when it comes to actual work, there is nothing but speeches,” the protesters said, expressing frustration over what they called repeated broken assurances.
The demonstration was organised to press the government to act on the long-standing demand for job regularisation.
