AGARTALA: Incessant rainfall brought normal life to a standstill in several parts of Agartala on Monday, as waterlogging on major roads and low-lying areas severely disrupted vehicular movement across the city.
Commuters were left stranded for hours as water accumulated on key stretches, with many areas witnessing knee-deep flooding. Office-goers, students, and traders reportedly faced significant difficulties navigating the submerged roads.
The disruption comes amid an active spell of heavy rainfall over the region, with the Education Department earlier in the day ordering the closure of schools in West Tripura and Sepahijala districts as a precautionary measure.
Residents have repeatedly flagged the city’s drainage infrastructure as inadequate to handle even moderate rainfall, a concern that has resurfaced during previous monsoon spells this year. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on remedial measures for the current situation.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast continued heavy rainfall over the region in the coming hours, raising concerns of further disruption.
