KATHALIA, Tripura: Tension gripped the Nirbhaypur rubber plantation under Kathalia Block on Friday after workers staged a protest and locked the main gate, demanding the transfer order of plantation in-charge Dipen Bonik be revoked.
According to workers, around 60 men and women employed at the plantation were informed on Thursday evening that Bonik, who has served as in-charge since 2017, had received orders for transfer to another posting. The news reportedly triggered sharp resentment among the workforce, who allege that Bonik’s tenure has seen strong leadership and notable development of the plantation, as well as a sister unit he oversees in the Dhanpur area.
Workers from both the Nirbhaypur and Dhanpur plantations reportedly united in opposition to the transfer, declaring that the office gate would remain padlocked and work suspended until the order is stayed.
Speaking to reporters on Friday morning, Krishnamitra, President of the Nirbhaypur Workers’ Union, and Ranjit Das, the union’s Secretary, stated that the gate would not be reopened until the transfer order concerning Bonik is cancelled.
