SABROOM, South Tripura: Madhabnagar Higher Secondary School, located under Poangbari RD Block, has been left in a state of prolonged neglect, sparking growing anger among parents and students over the unhygienic and hazardous conditions prevailing on the campus.
According to local allegations, the absence of a boundary wall around the school premises has allowed a section of residents to freely tether cattle and goats inside classrooms. Compounding the problem, the school’s toilets are reportedly so filled with filth that they have become unusable for students. When approached on the matter, the headmaster reportedly expressed helplessness, stating that the lack of a boundary wall is the primary reason outsiders enter the campus unchecked and leave classrooms and washrooms soiled.
The situation is said to worsen further during the monsoon, with even light rainfall allegedly causing water to seep into classrooms, disrupting classes and causing hardship for students. More alarmingly, the school’s drinking water tank has reportedly remained uncleaned for an extended period, leaving it in a dirty and potentially dangerous condition. Students are said to be forced to drink this water, which is also allegedly used in preparing the mid-day meal. Adding to the safety concerns, the door to the headmaster’s office is reportedly broken, reflecting the institution’s overall lack of basic security infrastructure.
Parents and locals have demanded urgent intervention from the district administration and the Education Department to address the long-standing issues before they escalate into a health crisis for students.
