KANCHANPUR: A gang of thieves broke into the home of Nirmal Nath in the Laljuri area under Kanchanpur subdivision on Sunday, making off with gold ornaments and cash after forcing open an almirah.
According to Nath, he was away in Kanchanpur on Sunday afternoon while his mother locked the house and went to a neighbouring home to attend a BJP meeting on the village council election. On returning in the evening, he found the door lock broken and, on entering, discovered the house ransacked and the almirah’s locker forced open.
Four gold ornaments worth an estimated Rs 1 lakh and around Rs 10,000 in cash were found missing, Nath said.
He has filed a written complaint at the Laljuri police outpost, and police have launched an investigation. The family has alleged the theft may have been planned, noting it occurred while the house was briefly left unattended.
Residents have urged police to swiftly identify and arrest those responsible and recover the stolen items.
