AGARTALA: Traffic on the Assam–Agartala National Highway came to a standstill on Saturday after a massive tree fell across the road in the area adjacent to Bormura Bonkumari Temple, disrupting movement of vehicles along the key route.
The fallen tree blocked the carriageway, leaving commuters and transport operators stranded on both sides as vehicles were unable to pass through the affected stretch. Road-clearing work was subsequently taken up to remove the tree and restore traffic movement.
The National Highway serves as a critical artery connecting Tripura with Assam and the rest of the Northeast, and any disruption along the route typically affects the movement of both passenger and freight traffic, including essential supplies.
The exact cause of the tree fall, whether attributable to weather conditions or other factors, could not be immediately confirmed. It also remains unclear how long the road remained blocked before clearing operations began.
Authorities are expected to complete restoration work at the earliest to normalise traffic flow along the highway.
