Elderly Woman’s Outburst Over MGNREGA Work Denial Stirs Tension in Jampuijala

Jampuijala :A wave of resentment swept through Guli Raibari village under Jampuijala Block on Wednesday after a 70-year-old widow, Roshanara Khatun, deprived of MGNREGA work, made an emotional outburst demanding the Chief Minister have her shot dead rather than let her suffer such deprivation.

According to villagers, Roshanara Khatun, who is elderly, ailing and without any family support, had been seeking work under the MGNREGA scheme to sustain herself but was allegedly left out of the job allocation process. Adding to her distress, the local GRS (Gram Rozgar Sevak), Sandhi Ram Debbarma, reportedly issued a notice against her for allegedly not turning up for work, despite her claims that she was never assigned any.

The development sparked outrage among fellow MGNREGA workers of the village, who gathered in large numbers on Wednesday afternoon in solidarity with the elderly woman. The workers declared that they would refuse to continue their own MGNREGA work unless Roshanara Khatun is also provided with employment under the scheme.

The incident has drawn attention to alleged lapses in the implementation of MGNREGA at the local level, with villagers demanding immediate intervention from higher authorities to ensure justice for the elderly woman and accountability from the concerned officials.
