AGARTALA: A drug-addicted youth allegedly created a disturbance at Agartala West police station, triggering questions over the administration’s ongoing anti-narcotics campaign.
According to sources, the youth, a resident of Pratapgarh, had reportedly been admitted to a hospital recently but allegedly fled and turned up at the police station, where he sat down and demanded narcotics — specifically two “quotas” of brown sugar.
When the situation failed to de-escalate, police reportedly summoned the Agartala Fire Service. Personnel who arrived at the spot attempted to move the youth to hospital, but he allegedly got off the stretcher twice and refused to be taken, according to sources.
The most serious claim to emerge is that the youth was allegedly supplied intoxicants from inside the police station itself, after which he reportedly walked away calmly. This allegation, and the nature of the substance involved, could not be independently verified.
The incident has raised questions about the effectiveness of anti-drug operations and police accountability. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement.
