AGARTALA:In a major success for the Tripura Police Crime Branch, two persons, including a government employee, were arrested with a huge cache of narcotics recovered from a luxury car near Ranirbazar Fire Station.
Acting on secret information, a Crime Branch team intercepted the vehicle as it was allegedly transporting the contraband from outside the state. A search of the car reportedly led to the recovery of 10,000 Yaba tablets, police sources said.
The two arrested have been identified as Prashanta Pal (32), son of Pradip Pal, a resident of Durganagar area under Ranirbazar police station, and Dilip Tripura (47), a resident of Dhumacherra. According to sources, Prashanta Pal is employed with the Animal Resource Development Department, raising questions over the alleged involvement of a government official in the drug trade.
The operation was led by Crime Branch SI Rajiv Chowdhury.
Police are said to be investigating the source of the narcotics and whether the accused have links to a larger inter-state trafficking network. Further legal proceedings against the duo are expected to follow, officials indicated.
This is being seen as a significant breakthrough in the Crime Branch’s ongoing efforts to curb the flow of narcotics into the state.
