Mohanpur:The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Sunday submitted a memorandum to the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Mohanpur, demanding withdrawal of what it termed a “false case” against DYFI Mohanpur Sub-Divisional Committee President Subrata Gop and youth activist Ratan Sarkar.
A protest march organised by the CPIM Mohanpur Sub-Divisional Committee culminated in a deputation at the SDPO’s office in Lembucherra. The party alleged that the two activists were attacked by miscreants at Harinakhola while visiting a youth worker’s residence in connection with preparations for the DYFI Mohanpur Divisional Conference scheduled for June 28. They further alleged that a packet of cannabis was subsequently planted on their abandoned motorcycle to falsely implicate them.
CPIM leaders, including Bamutia MLA and DYFI Divisional Committee Secretary Nayan Sarkar and CPIM Mohanpur Divisional Committee Secretary Sudip Debnath, also named local resident Ajay Deb as allegedly involved in the incident.
As SDPO Ashish Dasgupta was absent, the memorandum was submitted to Lembucherra Police Outpost Officer-in-Charge Ranjan Biswas. Party leaders warned of a larger democratic movement if their demands were not addressed.
The matter is currently under police investigation.
