Agartala: Tripura Pradesh Congress has outright rejected the state government’s decision to conduct a magistrate-level inquiry into the shocking incident of a woman’s body being recovered from the Shantiniketan College premises, demanding instead that the investigation be entrusted to a sitting judge of the Tripura High Court.
Senior Congress leaders, while addressing the media, expressed deep dissatisfaction over the state government’s handling of the case, terming the magistrate-level inquiry as inadequate and insufficient given the serious and sensitive nature of the incident. They argued that only a High Court judge-led investigation could guarantee a fair, transparent, and impartial probe, and ensure that the truth comes out without any political interference.
Congress leaders further alleged that the state government is attempting to suppress the matter by ordering a lower-level inquiry, and warned that such attempts will not be tolerated by the people of Tripura.
In a significant development, Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress announced that it will launch a state-wide agitation from after June 15th, demanding justice for the deceased woman and accountability from the authorities concerned. The women’s wing stated that if the government fails to order a High Court judge-led inquiry, the agitation will intensify across all districts of the state.
The incident has sent shockwaves across Tripura, with various political and civil society organisations calling for a thorough and unbiased investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
