AGARTALA: The Sadar District Congress on Tuesday organised a mass sit-in demonstration in front of the Vivekananda statue adjacent to Astabal Maidan here, protesting the proposed electricity privatisation bill and a string of grievances related to the state’s power sector.
Party workers and leaders demanded the immediate withdrawal of the electricity privatisation bill, cancellation of smart meters, and an end to what they termed “rampant corruption” within the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL). Protesters also raised concerns over the deteriorating state of power services and called for urgent improvement, alongside strong objections to the recent abnormal hike in electricity tariffs and charges.
Congress functionaries said the party would continue its agitation until the government addressed the demands raised during the programme.
