Khowai: Concern is mounting over incidents of illegal infiltration through the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s Khowai subdivision, with local residents alleging that several border-adjacent areas are being used as easy transit routes by Bangladeshi nationals.
According to local sources, while Bangladeshi nationals are frequently apprehended from various locations in Khowai town, the key masterminds allegedly running the trafficking network behind such infiltration have largely evaded arrest. Residents claimed that agents and trafficking rings have been active for a long time, facilitating illegal crossings in both directions across the border. They alleged that although police have managed to detain individual infiltrators, action against the network’s principal operators has remained limited.
In the latest incident, Khowai police on Thursday detained two Bangladeshi nationals, identified as Kabir Khan and Sheikh Shamim, from the area near Krishna Mandir in Khowai town. Legal proceedings against the duo have reportedly been initiated.
Following the detentions, local residents have renewed their demand for the identification and arrest of the masterminds allegedly operating the trafficking network in the border region. They argued that merely apprehending infiltrators would not offer a lasting solution, calling for stringent action against the organised network allegedly facilitating such cross-border movement.
Police officials have not yet issued an official statement on the broader trafficking network allegations.
