Agartala: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Friday launched a sharp attack on former Chief Minister and CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar, alleging that his recent remarks could mislead the public and stoke unrest in the state.
Reacting to Sarkar’s comments, Saha said the veteran CPI(M) leader was “talking wrongly,” and claimed the party had historically risen to power through political arrangements and backing from outside organisations rather than a clear people’s mandate. Referring specifically to Sarkar’s remarks touching on extremism and militancy, the Chief Minister said such statements were inappropriate and risked encouraging people to act outside the law.
“At this age and after running the state for so long, if they say such things, they are inciting people,” Saha said, condemning the remarks and appealing to opposition leaders to refrain from misleading the public. He alleged a pattern of attempts to “create confusion” after failing to provoke internal rifts, adding that the comments had exposed a “mentality of a militant.”
Meanwhile, three complaints were filed against Sarkar at two police stations in West Tripura’s Mohanpur subdivision on Friday evening, with complainants alleging his remarks could disturb public order.
