AGARTALA: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday said the state government is considering further strengthening its de-addiction and rehabilitation services, including enhancing facilities at the Narsingarh rehabilitation centre.
Speaking during his inspection of Bordowali School, Saha highlighted several ongoing initiatives across sectors, including the establishment of de-addiction centres in all eight districts of the state and the expansion of healthcare infrastructure.
The Chief Minister noted that the state government had earlier decided to set up drug de-addiction centres across all eight districts, with each centre estimated to cost around Rs 20 crore. The Union Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) had already sanctioned Rs 198 crore for a special de-addiction centre at Bishramganj in Sepahijala district.
Saha said regular field visits to educational and other public institutions help the government identify grassroots-level problems and take timely, effective measures for their development.
The announcement comes amid the state’s continuing efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking, with Tripura’s location bordering Bangladesh on three sides making it vulnerable to smuggling and illicit narcotics movement through the region.
