Teliamura:A government fair price shop in the Kalitila area of Teliamura has come under scrutiny after a ration beneficiary alleged that he was given short measurements of rice, sparking outrage among local residents and raising serious questions about the integrity of the public distribution system.
The complainant, Ranjit Saha, alleged that the shop owner, Sabita Datta Laskar (Roy), took advantage of his elderly mother’s simplicity while measuring rice. Upon reweighing the rice at home, a clear discrepancy was found. When Saha returned to the shop to raise the issue, no satisfactory resolution was provided.
When approached by media, the shop owner did not deny the allegation outright, attributing the error to the absence of the staff member responsible for weighing. However, locals remain unconvinced and have demanded strict action.
The Sub-Divisional Food Department officer-in-charge assured that the complaint would be taken seriously and a thorough investigation would be conducted. If the allegations are proven, appropriate administrative action will follow.
Residents have demanded a fair and impartial inquiry to ensure that no beneficiary faces such exploitation at government ration shops in the future.
