UDAIPUR: A major burglary at a teacher’s residence, barely 100 metres from the District Superintendent of Police’s office, has sparked outrage among residents amid a rising spate of house thefts in Udaipur city and its surrounding areas.
The incident occurred at the Mahadev Dighi East Bank area under Udaipur Municipal Council, at the house of Biplab Saha, a teacher. According to family sources, Saha had gone with his family to their old house in Amarpur on Monday afternoon, leaving the house empty. Thieves broke the main door’s lock and hook, forced open multiple almirahs, including two Godrej cupboards, and made off with around Rs 50,000 in cash and 4-5 bhori of gold ornaments.
The theft came to light on Tuesday morning when Saha’s brother, Parthapratim Saha, arrived at the house. Biplab Saha rushed back and filed a complaint at Radhakishorepur police station, following which police reached the spot and began investigation.
Residents alleged that burglaries occur almost daily in the police station area without effective police action, raising concerns over the law-and-order situation so close to a key government office. Locals have demanded swift arrests and stronger security measures in the area.
