AGARTALA: Unidentified miscreants broke open the donation box at Puthiba Buddhist Temple and decamped with the cash inside, prompting temple authorities to lodge a case at Ujan Abhoynagar police outpost.
Deepak Kumar Sinha, General Secretary of the Puthiba Welfare Trust, told the media that he found the donation box lock broken on reaching the temple on Wednesday morning, with cash scattered around the premises. He immediately alerted the temple authorities, following which a complaint was filed with the local police outpost.
Sinha alleged that such theft incidents have been recurring in the area due to the absence of regular police patrolling, raising concerns over the security of religious establishments in the locality.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter. The exact amount stolen has not been officially disclosed.
Temple authorities have urged the administration to step up patrolling in the area to prevent similar incidents in the future and ensure the safety of religious sites and their offerings.
