Attack During Scrutiny: CPI(M) Protests at Kamalpur SDM Office, Accuses Ruling Alliance

KAMALPUR: CPI(M) workers and supporters staged a protest in front of the Kamalpur SDM/SDPO office on Wednesday, alleging that party candidates were attacked by miscreants linked to the ruling BJP–Tipra Motha alliance during the scrutiny of nominations in Salema Block.

According to the CPI(M), its candidates and supporters were assaulted allegedly by miscreants associated with the ruling combine while the scrutiny process was underway, raising concerns over the safety of opposition candidates ahead of the upcoming VC elections.

Protesters gathered outside the SDM/SDPO office demanding immediate action against those responsible and adequate security for CPI(M) candidates during the remainder of the election process. Slogans were raised against the alleged attackers, with party workers accusing the administration of failing to ensure a level playing field for all contesting parties.

The CPI(M) has demanded a thorough investigation into the incident and strict action against the culprits. The allegations made by the party have not yet been independently verified, and the response of the BJP, Tipra Motha, or the administration was not immediately available.

The situation in Salema Block reportedly remains tense following the incident.
