BISHALGARH: A late-night incident initially reported as a snatching and abduction case has reportedly turned out to be a robbery of banned cough syrup being transported in a vehicle, police sources said.
According to sources, CCTV footage from the Prabhurampur area allegedly shows miscreants unloading cartons of cough syrup from a black Scorpio vehicle onto another vehicle after allegedly intercepting it around 2:30 AM Saturday. Police have arrested five people in connection with the case and are searching for others allegedly involved, sources said.
Two vehicles were reportedly en route from Agartala to Boxanagar carrying the banned substance when they were allegedly waylaid by a gang using a pickup vehicle and motorcycles, according to police sources.
A woman who filed a police complaint claiming abduction and jewellery theft is herself facing allegations of involvement in drug trafficking, sources claimed. Local MLA Sushanta Deb has reportedly urged police to take strict action against those using the area as a trafficking corridor.
