Melaghar:Bicycles were distributed among girl students at Melaghar Telkajala Higher Secondary School on Wednesday through a colourful ceremony, aimed at furthering the spread of education and making the daily commute to school easier and safer for them.
Organised under the state government’s education assistance programme, the event left many girl students of the school overjoyed as they received their bicycles. The ceremony, held on the school premises, was attended by the headteacher, teachers, members of the School Management Committee, parents, and eminent social worker and Committee Chairman Goutam Ghosh.
Addressing the gathering, speakers highlighted that many girl students from rural areas are forced to travel long distances on foot every day to reach school. They said the distribution of bicycles would significantly ease this hardship and help save valuable time, allowing students to concentrate better on their studies. The initiative, they added, would play a vital role in encouraging more girls to attend school regularly and pursue higher education.
Expressing their joy, the beneficiary students said they had long struggled with the difficulties of commuting to school. With the bicycles, they said, they would now be able to reach school more comfortably and on time, adding that the initiative had given them renewed enthusiasm for their studies.
The festive programme was widely seen as yet another shining example of the state government’s continued commitment to education, particularly its sustained efforts towards promoting and strengthening girls’ education across rural Tripura.
