Mandai: Malati Debbarma, a resident of Dhanai Para under Mandai Block, continues to live in a small, dilapidated mud hut despite holding an Antyodaya ration card, having been denied the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) despite repeated attempts.
Malati alleged that she has submitted the required documents for the housing scheme on multiple occasions, and geo-tracking of her residence has also been conducted several times by the concerned authorities. Despite completing these procedures, she has not received any assistance under the scheme, leaving her family to continue living in precarious conditions.
Speaking to the media, Malati appealed to the concerned department and the state government to urgently look into her case and extend the benefits of PMAY to her family, stressing that her Antyodaya status — meant to identify the poorest of the poor — makes her case particularly deserving of support.
The case highlights persistent gaps in the implementation of housing welfare schemes at the grassroots level, with eligible beneficiaries reportedly being left out despite fulfilling all procedural requirements. Local authorities are yet to respond to the allegations.
