Agartala:A delegation from the Amra Bangali party submitted a deputation to the District Magistrate of West Tripura on Thursday, raising a five-point charter of demands centered on women’s safety, price rise, drug abuse, and unemployment in the state.
In their memorandum, party representatives expressed deep concern over what they described as a deteriorating law and order situation, citing the recent unnatural death of a young woman, Manisha Das, at the Santiniketan Medical College hostel on June 10, and the alleged gang rape of a ninth-grade student in the Atharobhola Darkathang area of Udaipur subdivision on June 12. The delegation alleged that several other crimes against women had occurred across the state in recent months, and accused the Home Department of failing to act effectively. They further alleged that the police had labelled the Manisha Das case a suicide without proper investigation, and claimed that perpetrators in many such cases historically escaped justice due to political backing.
Alongside the law and order concerns, the party also flagged the sharp rise in prices of essential commodities — including petrol, diesel, cooking gas, and medicines — as a major burden on ordinary citizens, and called for urgent measures to curb black marketing.
Among their key demands, the party sought a judicial inquiry headed by a sitting High Court judge into Manisha Das’s death, the formation of a Special Task Force to ensure swift justice in crimes against women regardless of political affiliation, a crackdown on the production and sale of intoxicants, price control measures, block-level industrial development to generate employment, and the withdrawal of an increased tax on vacant land in expanded municipal areas.
The delegation urged the district administration to forward their demands to the appropriate authorities for prompt action, warning that continued inaction would force the party to escalate its agitation.
