AGARTALA: The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has been carrying out a long-running initiative to restore abandoned ponds across the city and make them usable for the general public, with 23 ponds already handed over to residents so far.
As part of this ongoing drive, the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, along with Corporator Ratna Dutta and other AMC officials, inspected the restoration work at Prabhu Bari and Madhyapara ponds on Tuesday.
During the inspection, officials reviewed the progress of renovation work and discussed further steps to ensure the ponds remain accessible and functional for public use, including activities such as fishing, washing, and community water needs.
The AMC’s initiative is aimed at reviving neglected water bodies across Agartala, improving civic infrastructure, and promoting sustainable use of local water resources for residents in surrounding neighbourhoods.
Officials said the drive would continue in phases, with more ponds set to be renovated and handed over to the public in the coming months.
