Kumarghat: In a major anti-narcotics operation, police seized approximately 271.48 kg of cannabis from a vehicle in the Demdum area under Fatikroy Assembly constituency, within Kumarghat subdivision, on Tuesday.
According to preliminary information, the vehicle was intercepted by Fatikroy Police Station personnel, who recovered the huge consignment of cannabis hidden inside. Sources said two persons have been detained in connection with the seizure, though their identities and roles in the alleged smuggling operation are yet to be officially confirmed.
The operation is being viewed as a significant success for Fatikroy Police after a considerable period, given the scale of the seizure.
However, local residents have alleged that the stretch of road has long been used for regular smuggling activities after evening hours, including alleged cattle trafficking and the movement of Burmese cigarettes and various narcotics. Residents claimed that despite this, no effective action had been taken by police in this regard until now.
