Agartala: Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma on Tuesday held a series of critical, separate meetings with multiple surrendered militant organizations to resolve brewing discontent over rehabilitation packages. However, the talks yielded mixed results, leaving a significant section of the former insurgents on the path of agitation.
Following the extensive deliberations, the Minister announced the government’s final stance on the implementation of the agreed-upon socio-economic packages. While the dialogue managed to break ice with one faction, which decided to withdraw its planned protest after receiving concrete assurances from the Minister, the deadlock remained unresolved with two other prominent groups.
Representatives from these two dissenting factions emerged from the meetings declaring that they remain steadfast in their decision to proceed with democratic agitations. They claimed that the government’s timeline and propositions fell short of addressing their urgent livelihood and welfare demands.
The ongoing rift poses a challenge for the state administration, which has been actively working to integrate former insurgents into mainstream society. With two groups firmly digging in their heels, security and administrative machinery remain on high alert to handle any sudden highway or rail blockades.
