Family Escapes Unhurt as Power Tower Guard Wall Collapses in Churaibari

Churaibari: A family in East Churaibari village under North Tripura district narrowly escaped a major tragedy on Tuesday morning when the massive retaining guard wall of an 11 KV electric transmission tower suddenly collapsed onto their house.

The incident occurred at around 9:00 AM in Ward No. 3 of East Churaibari Panchayat following persistent heavy monsoon downpours. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as all family members were away for work during the mishap. Anowara Begum, the homeowner, had left earlier for an MGNREGS rural employment work site, while others were out on daily engagements.

However, the impact caused severe structural damage, completely crushing the kitchen, bathroom, and a section of the tin roof, alongside killing several domestic poultry.

Extremely angered by the incident, Begum and local residents accused the power department authorities of gross negligence. Locals alleged that severe soil erosion around the high-voltage tower’s foundation had been a recurring hazard. Despite multiple previous inspections by concerned officials, no timely preventive reinforcement was executed. The distressed family has approached the local panchayat and district administration, demanding immediate compensation for their extensive losses.
