Kamalpur: Heavy, persistent downpours have completely paralyzed vehicular movement on National Highway 208, leaving a vital stretch between Erarpar and the Manikbhandar market area entirely blocked since Tuesday morning.
The situation turned precarious after a long stretch of the uncompleted highway dissolved into an extremely slippery sludge of mud. Local sources reported that multiple heavily loaded vehicles lost traction and became stuck, effectively cutting off the transit line under the Kamalpur sub-division.
Daily commuters, school children, and local traders have been hit hardest by the abrupt shutdown, with many forced to turn back or wait out the gridlock for hours. Long lines of stranded passenger buses and cargo trucks queued up on both sides of the muddy zone, creating massive congestion.
Residents expressed deep frustration over the long-standing, deplorable condition of this state highway, pointing out that even moderate rain transforms the arterial road into a dangerous hazard due to a lack of proper surfacing and maintenance. Locals have urgently appealed to the public works department and subdivision administration to deploy emergency machinery to clear the sludge, pull out the trapped vehicles, and restore safe transit.
