Agartala: In a bid to combat the rising threat of substance abuse among youth, the East Agartala Regional Committee of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) on Tuesday submitted a formal deputation to the Agartala East Women’s Police Station.
The delegation, comprising local women leaders and residents, raised serious concerns over the growing influx of narcotics in the region. They specifically highlighted the deteriorating situation in the Banamalipur area, where a significant number of young individuals are reportedly falling victim to drug addiction.
Speaking to reporters, the organizers emphasized that immediate, decisive action is required from law enforcement to dismantle local drug rings and protect the future of the younger generation. “The youth are the backbone of our society, and we cannot sit idle while addiction destroys families in Banamalipur and surrounding areas,” a representative stated.
The delegation urged the police administration to intensify night patrolling, conduct targeted raids on suspected drug dens, and crack down heavily on peddlers. The police authorities received the memorandum and assured the association that strict measures would be implemented to curb the menace and restore safety in the affected neighborhoods.
