KAILASHAHAR: A major tragedy was narrowly averted in Kailashahar on Monday after a passenger-carrying e-rickshaw, locally known as a tuktuk, lost control and plunged directly into the historic Kali Dighi.
According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle was navigating a sharp turn near the water body when the driver suddenly lost control, causing the tuktuk to overturn and roll down the embankment into the deep pond. The sudden crash triggered panic among nearby residents and passersby.
Exhibiting exemplary courage, local residents immediately rushed to the spot and jumped into the water to rescue the passengers and the driver. Thanks to their swift, collective response, everyone on board was safely pulled out of the pond with no major injuries reported.
Following the successful rescue of the individuals, the locals joined forces with ropes to manually haul the submerged tuktuk out of the water. While the passengers escaped with minor bruises and a severe fright, the vehicle sustained significant damage. Local authorities arrived at the scene shortly after to assess the situation and highly praised the community members for their timely, life-saving intervention.
