Wheels of Welfare: Govt Hands Uniforms to Prepaid Taxi and Auto Drivers

Agartala: The Tripura government distributed uniforms to prepaid taxi and auto drivers, in a move aimed at supporting the transport workers who serve commuters and visitors.

The uniforms were handed over to drivers operating under the prepaid taxi and auto services. Such services are meant to give passengers a fair and transparent fare system, particularly at points of high footfall where travellers arrive from other places.

Uniforms help passengers easily identify authorised drivers and are generally seen as a step towards bringing discipline and a professional look to the service. The initiative is also expected to improve public confidence in the prepaid system.

The distribution comes at a time when the state is preparing for the festive season, which sees a surge in the number of people travelling within and into the city.

Drivers’ associations have in the past sought welfare support and better working conditions, and the state government has taken up several schemes for the transport sector.
