AGARTALA: Tripura Police will deploy more than 10,000 personnel, including Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans, across the state during Durga Puja to maintain law and order and assist visitors and pandal-hoppers, DGP (in-charge) G.S. Rao said on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference at the state police headquarters, Rao said Durga Puja is the biggest festival in the state and the department is “fully prepared”. He said 2,905 pujas have been recorded statewide, about 450 of them in Agartala. Five extortion-related cases linked to puja arrangements have been registered so far.
CCTV cameras and 159 watchtowers will be set up to monitor crowds. More women police personnel will be posted to assist women visitors, and special security arrangements will be made at railway stations.
In Agartala, no-entry restrictions will remain in force from 5 pm to 1 am during the puja period. A green corridor will be kept open for ambulances and emergency vehicles.
Rao said police stations are holding meetings with puja committees, which have been asked to deploy volunteers at pandals to help manage crowds. He advised air and rail travellers to plan journeys in advance.
