AGARTALA: Internal friction has surfaced within the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tripura, ahead of the long-awaited TTAADC Village Committee elections for 4,597 seats. TIPRA Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma has issued an urgent call for high-level NDA dialogue to resolve growing grassroots tensions between the alliance partners.
The friction stems from overlapping candidate nominations filed by both parties across several tribal seats. Debbarma voiced serious concerns over these unplanned “friendly fights”, warning that a division of votes at the village level could inadvertently benefit the opposition CPIM-Congress combine. He emphasized the immediate need for a formal coordination committee meeting to iron out seat-sharing anomalies and restore structural discipline.
While the top leaderships of both the BJP and TIPRA Motha have publicly maintained that the alliance remains stable, field-level cadre friction has intensified since the declaration of the election schedule. Local workers from both sides have resisted yielding seats, making strategic consensus difficult. Political analysts indicate that how the NDA handles this internal rift over the coming days will be crucial to securing absolute dominance in the tribal council belt.
