SONAMURA: Police have recovered 47.5 kg of dried cannabis, valued at an estimated Rs 23,75,000, from the UNC Nagar–Fakiradola border road area during routine patrolling.
According to Sonamura Police, the cannabis was found abandoned in packets at various points along the road. The consignment was seized following due legal procedure.
Police said an investigation has been launched to trace the owner of the cannabis, with efforts underway to identify those responsible for planting or transporting the contraband through the border area.
No arrests have been made in connection with the seizure so far, officials said, adding that the case has been registered and further probe is in progress to establish the source and intended destination of the drugs.
The recovery comes amid continued vigilance by security forces along the India-Bangladesh border in the region, which has periodically reported seizures of narcotics and contraband.
