MADHUPUR: Police have arrested Nayan Nama in connection with the murder of Sujita Das, a married woman, at the Kamalasagar Bhadra Mela. His father, Sanjit Nama, has also been named in the case.
According to police, Sujita Das, from the ONGC First Gate area, had been in a relationship with Pritam Nama — Nayan’s elder brother, himself already married — for over three years. Both families had repeatedly tried to reason with the couple, but the relationship continued.
At the fair, an altercation broke out after locals questioned Sanjit Nama about his son’s relationship. When Sanjit confronted Pritam, a scuffle ensued, and Sujita Das allegedly attempted to intervene. Nayan Nama then attacked her with a knife, police said. She succumbed to her injuries after being referred to GBP Hospital from Madhupur Primary Health Centre.
Nayan Nama was arrested from Hapania Hospital the same night. Sujita Das’s family has filed a case against Sanjit Nama and his son at Madhupur Police Station. A forensic team accompanied the accused to the crime scene as part of the investigation.
Nayan Nama was produced before the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Court on Sunday, where the investigating officer sought his remand.
