KAMALPUR: A daring overnight theft at the Salema Colony No. 2 Anganwadi Centre in Kabiraj Tilla, under Kachuchhara Police Station, has caused alarm among local residents. Thieves broke the centre’s lock and made off with two gas cylinders, an inverter, and solar system wiring, police said.
The centre’s worker discovered the broken lock on Monday morning during her routine visit and found items scattered inside. She alerted nearby residents, the local gram panchayat head, and Kachuchhara police, who reached the spot to examine the scene. An investigation has been launched, though the exact time and identity of the culprits remain unknown.
Residents alleged the lock had shown signs of tampering for several days before the theft, raising questions over whether adequate security steps were taken. Locals also pointed to evening gatherings near the centre and the area’s isolation after dark as possible factors, though no direct link to the theft has been established.
The incident has drawn attention to other long-standing issues at the centre, including the absence of a helper and a persistent drinking-water problem forcing children to bring water from home. Residents have demanded recovery of the stolen goods and stronger security measures.
