Agartala: A gang of thieves broke into a jewellery shop at Kali Bazar in Bamutia, under the jurisdiction of the local police outpost, by cutting through the tin roof and made off with approximately 80 bhori of silver ornaments along with cash, sparking fresh alarm in the area.
The theft came to light on [date] morning when shop owner Amrit Debnath arrived to open his store and discovered the roof had been cut open and valuables missing. Despite a night guard being posted in the market, the thieves managed to carry out the operation undetected, raising serious questions about the effectiveness of existing security arrangements.
This is not the first such incident to hit the area, and the latest theft has reignited anger among local traders and residents, who have demanded stronger night-time policing and better oversight of market guards. Business owners in the locality said repeated break-ins have left them anxious about the safety of their establishments despite paying for private security.
Police have been informed and an investigation is underway. No arrests have been made so far. Local shopkeepers have called for a joint meeting with police to review security measures in the market.
