Tension Grips Teliamura Hospital Over Post-Mortem of Two Accident Victims

Teliamura: Tension gripped the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital on Sunday morning after family members of two youths killed in a road accident demanded that the post-mortem be withheld until the actual cause of the crash was established.

Sanjay Debbarma and Bishu Kumar Debbarma died on Saturday evening when their motorcycle met with a accident near the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office at Jaruilongbari on the Assam-Agartala National Highway, under Teliamura police station.

Family members and local residents gathered outside the hospital morgue on Sunday, refusing to allow the post-mortem until questions over the circumstances of the crash were addressed. The situation was further complicated by confusion over an earlier media interview given by a police officer, which many mistakenly believed referred to Saturday’s accident, though it in fact concerned a separate, earlier incident in the same area.

As tension mounted around 10 am, Teliamura police were deployed to manage the crowd, while prolonged discussions were held with the family. The situation eased around 2 pm after the concerned police officer and MDC Jiten Debbarma arrived and assured the family that the accident’s cause would be thoroughly investigated.

Following the assurance, family members agreed to the post-mortem, though questions over possible negligence remain unresolved pending the report and police probe.
