Agartala: Elections to the Village Committees (VCs) under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council will be held on September 28, with opposition CPI(M) candidates and independents in the fray, along with BJP nominees.
Addressing the media after the conclusion of the nomination process, Mandai Block BDO and Returning Officer Poojan Sen said the first mock poll for the election would be conducted on September 15 from 9:30 am, with arrangements for allowances for polling personnel also in place.
Of the 26 village committees under Mandai Block, voting will be held in 15, while candidates have already been elected unopposed in the remaining 11. Among independent candidates, 20 remain in the contest. Of BJP’s 11 nominations, 8 candidates are contesting the polls, while 3 have already won unopposed.
The Returning Officer described the September 15 mock poll as a crucial step in the run-up to the election, aimed at ensuring smooth conduct of the process. He also responded to questions on related preparations, assuring that all necessary arrangements were being made ahead of polling day.
