Bishramganj: Police have arrested two of the seven men accused in an August 24 attack on two contractors outside the Bishramganj RD Division office, more than two weeks after the incident.
Contractor Plabon Saha of Bishalgarh and his associate Sagar Nath were assaulted by a group of youths in front of the office, and their vehicle was vandalised in the attack. Bishramganj police registered a suo moto case, numbered 31/2026, against seven persons, all of whom had been absconding since the incident.
Acting on a tip-off, Bishramganj Officer-in-Charge Ajit Debbarma led a operation on Wednesday morning and detained two of the accused, identified as Surendra Riang and Fani Roy Debbarma, from a forested area in Nonjala. Both have been lodged in the Bishramganj police station lock-up.
The duo will be produced before the Bishalgarh sub-divisional court later on Wednesday, the OC said.
Debbarma said the search for the remaining five accused is continuing, and assured that the law will take its due course against all those involved in the attack.
Police have not yet disclosed the motive behind the assault.
