332 NOMINATIONS, ONE BATTLEFIELD: MANDAI VC POLLS SET FOR MULTI-CORNERED FIGHT

AGARTALA: A total of 332 nomination papers were filed for the Village Committee (VC) elections across 26 VCs under Mandai Block, Returning Officer and BDO Pujan Sen told the media on Wednesday.

Briefing reporters on the nomination process, Sen said the filings included 198 from Tipra Motha, 82 from the CPI(M), 35 from independent candidates, 11 from the BJP under the NDA alliance, and 6 from the IPFT.

He said the nomination filing process was completed peacefully and that scrutiny of the submitted papers is currently underway.

With all major political parties fielding candidates, Sen said a large security deployment has been put in place across the block to ensure a peaceful and orderly voting process. He added that further details regarding the nomination and scrutiny process would be shared with the media as the election proceeds.

The nominations set the stage for a multi-cornered contest in Mandai, with Tipra Motha fielding the highest number of candidates, followed by the CPI(M) as the principal opposition challenger, alongside the NDA allies and independents.
