UDAIPUR: With a firm message that public health safety would face no compromise, the district administration carried out a special joint raid across Udaipur subdivision in Gomati district on Tuesday, targeting food safety violations at sweet shops and hotels.
Officials from the Health Department, Food Department, and Legal Metrology Division jointly conducted surprise inspections at multiple establishments in Gokulpur and Rajarbagh areas, under the leadership of District Health Officer Dr. Shubhendu Debbarma.
The team inspected three sweet shops in Gokulpur and a sweet shop and hotel near Rajarbagh Motorstand. Officials found several violations, including missing production and expiry dates on packaged food items, and unhygienic preparation and storage conditions. Unhealthy sweets, chhana, and curd stored in refrigerators were seized, along with evidence of unclean kitchens, stale food stocks, and substandard spices at some outlets.
A hotel in Rajarbagh was temporarily shut down for operating without a valid food license, while several gas cylinders were confiscated over allegations of illegal storage.
Dr. Debbarma said compliance with food safety rules is mandatory, adding that fines have been imposed on violators. He said such inspections will continue across Udaipur subdivision, with stricter legal action planned against repeat offenders.
