World Physiotherapy Day Marked with Rally, Awareness Programme in Agartala

AGARTALA: The capital observed World Physiotherapy Day 2026 with a rally and an awareness programme highlighting the importance of physiotherapy in public health.

A rally was organised from in front of Rabindra Bhavan, passing through various routes across the city to mark the occasion. Dronacharya awardee and eminent sports coach Biswanath Nandy spoke on the significance of the day, underlining the role physiotherapy plays in sports, injury recovery, and overall physical wellness.

Separately, a special programme was held at the Agartala Press Club, where MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, GBP Hospital Deputy MS Kanak Chowdhury, and other eminent figures from the physiotherapy sector were present. Speakers said physiotherapy plays a vital role in treating physical ailments, managing injury-related complications, and restoring mobility.

Participants across both events called for wider public awareness about regular exercise and healthy lifestyle practices, and stressed the importance of consulting specialist physiotherapists when required. Speakers also urged that physiotherapy services be made more accessible, while commending the doctors and professionals associated with the field.

Attendees at both venues called for sustained efforts to build greater public understanding of physiotherapy in the years ahead.
