Daring Theft at Khowai Grocery Shop After Cutting CCTV Wires, Power Line

Khowai: A daring theft at a wholesale grocery shop, in which burglars cut CCTV wires and disconnected the power connection before making off with cash and valuables, has caused a stir in the Paharmura Baidyanath Choumuni area here.

The shop belongs to wholesale grocery trader Sagar Pal, who had closed it at the usual hour the previous evening and returned home. Police said the thieves cut through the shop’s tin fencing to gain entry at some point during the night.

According to the complaint, the burglars first disabled the shop’s CCTV system by cutting its wires and snapping the power connection, apparently to avoid detection. They then broke into the cash box and decamped with around Rs 10,000 in cash, along with several valuable items from the shop.

Pal discovered the theft on Friday morning when he arrived to open the shop and immediately alerted Khowai police station.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are examining how the thieves gained entry and identifying those involved. The daring nature of the theft, carried out in a densely populated locality, has left residents unsettled. It remains to be seen whether the investigation leads to the arrest of those responsible.
