Kamalpur: CPI(M) candidates submitted their nomination papers for a total of six Village Committees under Durga Chowmuhani RD Block here on Friday, following a massive procession held in the run-up to the filing.
The rally was led by Dhalai District CPI(M) Secretary Anjan Das, Kamalpur Sub-Division Committee Secretary Amar Bhattacharya, tribal leader Badarbhom Halam and women’s leader Kalyani Roy. The procession, comprising both tribal and non-tribal participants, began from Durga Chowmuhani Bazar and wound through several routes in the area before culminating at the Block office, where the party’s tribal candidates, both men and women, submitted their nomination papers to the Panchayat Officer.
Addressing the media after the filing, Anjan Das trained his guns on the BJP-Tipra Motha alliance government, criticising its handling of local governance and tribal welfare issues. He expressed confidence that CPI(M) candidates would register a decisive victory in the upcoming Village Committee elections, citing what he described as growing disillusionment with the ruling alliance among voters.
The rally saw considerable participation from party workers and supporters, reflecting the CPI(M)’s efforts to mobilise both tribal and non-tribal communities ahead of the polls, scheduled amid heightened political activity across the state’s autonomous district council areas.
