AGARTALA: The Assam–Agartala National Highway was brought to a standstill from Friday morning as seven surrendered militant outfits — NLFT(ORI), NLFT(PD), ATTF, NLFT(NB), JARC, JAC and ATTF(OLD) — launched a joint 72-hour blockade in support of an 11-point charter of demands.
Cadres and supporters reportedly set tyres ablaze at Bormura Chandra Sadhupara, halting vehicular movement and stranding commuters across the stretch. According to reports, similar blockade action was also underway at Bighudas on the rail route and Khowai Chowmuhani on the road route, raising concerns over wider disruption to connectivity.
Security has been tightened in the affected areas, with police and administration reportedly keeping close watch on the situation. West Tripura District Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak arrived at the spot and is said to be in talks with the agitators in an effort to restore normalcy.
The protesting organisations have announced that the blockade will continue for 72 hours or until their demands are met, leaving the administration and commuters bracing for further disruption in the hours ahead.
